Votos collects the minimum needed to work. Here is what we keep and why.

Organizers

We store your email and a salted hash of your password (never the password itself). We do not verify the email; it only lets you sign back in. If you ask to reset your password we email you a single-use link (and nothing else). We also store the content of your polls: titles, questions, options and the photos you upload. You choose which photos to upload: only upload ones you have permission to share.

Voters

No account or name is required. We store your votes together with a random identifier for your browser (a functional cookie) so that repeat votes are blocked where the poll does not allow them.

IP addresses

They are used to limit abuse (to slow down repeated attempts). We turn them into a salted code and do not store them in the database or write them in plain text to logs.

Cookies and storage

A session cookie for organizers, a device cookie for voters and a language preference in local storage. We use no advertising cookies.

Third parties

Cloudflare hosts the application, delivers the password-reset email and provides the Turnstile anti-spam check. Google Fonts serves the page typefaces. Each processes technical data (such as your IP) under its own policy.

Retention and deletion

Organizers can delete a poll at any time: its questions, votes and photos are removed. To ask us to delete an account or to ask anything else, write to us.
